I rode my bike over to the Gem Faire this weekend at the Santa Monica Civic Center. There was a lot to see and I was pretty exhausted and wishing I had taken my car by the end of the day. I love to use a pretty diverse array of materials, so I’m really glad I checked it out. I got some new gemstones, some sparkly ruby red delights for Holiday, some new Swarovski crystal shapes, and a lot of new Tibetan pieces- which were from my favorite booth of the day. They have such intricate, beautiful craftmanship and Tibetan silver actually has a higher silver count than sterling silver. I keep thinking about a Tibetan pendant I bought, a rather large rectangular blue jade pendant with an embossed gold toned falcon on one side and a monkey on the other. The falcon means “good luck” and the monkey symbolizes “energy” in Tibetan culture. I’ve never used or seen anything like it and I had to have it. The new additions to my ever-growing stash of beads are sure to pull my designs in new and unexplored directions.
Picking my Tibetan treasures.
So many gemstones to choose from!
